Centre College goalkeeper Liz Lowe has been named first team All-American in the Great Lakes Region by the National Field Hockey Coaches Association.
Lowe, a senior from Louisville, led the conference in saves, saves percentage, and goals against average. Teams averaged only 1.40 goals per game against Lowe, who also recorded three shutouts.
Senior back Whitney Van Vactor, another Louisville native, made the second team. Van Vactor was instrumental in the defensive success of Centre, which had the top-ranked defense in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
"Both of these players are extremely deserving," Centre coach Tom Hobbs said. "Liz had to wait her turn and started as a junior. She's made the most of her opportunity. Whitney has been with us all four years and has provided us with valuable leadership and productivity. She might not get her name in print for scoring, but she does the little things that helped us win many games in her four years here."
