LIBERTY - The city police department wants two new cruisers and the city fire department wants a new utility truck, but their requests to the City Council last week were put on hold.
Police Chief Ron Whited asked the city for the new cruisers to replace old ones that are in need of repair. Mayor Steve Sweeney and the council said they would test drive the old vehicles before deciding to replace them.
Fire Chief Donald Wilson asked for a new utility truck to store and haul equipment to fires. He said the fire department currently has no means to store and transport the equipment to fires.
Sweeney and Wilson will look into the request and report back to the council Dec. 10.
The council also approved a resolution to administer an $80,000 grant from state tobacco funds for the sewer project.
The city will seek a designation as a Preserve America Community for 2003-2004. A resolution passed by the council states the city will preserve and enhance the quality of life and is committed to the revitalization of the downtown Main Street area.
