On Nov. 13, Danville City Commissioner Jamey Gay made a very compelling argument for the construction of a parking structure that will service all of downtown Danville. Over half the money required for this structure has already been committed by state and federal dollars. Danville will have to issue a bond to pay the short-term cost to Danville for our share of the construction costs. This bond should be issued immediately!
The parking fees charged to those using the structure will pay Danville's share of the costs. The structure will create a number of jobs in Danville when the now empty Hub Frankel building is filled with businesses. Those businesses and their employees will generate increased payroll and business revenues to Danville. Like the revenue from charging users of the parking structure, the increased payroll and business revenue paid to city coffers from an occupied Hub will pay the bond off.
