On Tuesday, the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts handed down a ruling that fundamentally redefines the institution of marriage. This court denied the state's right to prevent homosexuals from marrying, and in effect, destroyed marriage in the state of Massachusetts. Even more importantly, this decision adds momentum to the movement for same-sex marriage across our nation. In making this decision, the court rejected all arguments presented by the Department of Public Health and other parties defending heterosexual marriage.
The court acknowledged the sweeping nature of their decision by stating, "We are mindful that our decision marks a change in the history of the marriage law." In essence, moral and religious arguments now have no impact on such court cases. This decision highlights the culture war that is going on in America. Yes, there is a war in our nation over the definition of marriage, sexual morality, and even the family.
