A few days ago I took the opportunity, provided by the Heart of Danville, to tour the Hub and see for myself both the condition and the potential of the building. The promoters of the Hub are not trying to sell the city a problem, but rather a solution.
The Hub is a solid, structurally sound edifice with astonishing commercial potential. The interior currently features large spaces for potential retailers, but nothing that would impede putting up new interior walls as required by prospective tenants. Most of these spaces also feature large windows, providing great natural sunlight and views of the entire town. The Hub offers retailers and others a chance to root themselves in the gracious sort of commercial building that one rarely sees these days in small cities like Danville. The Hub remains well-ventillated, with surprisingly little water damage, and a dry basement. As the Heart of Danville explained to us, the cost of building the parking structure is surprisingly small, and offers the city almost no risk of loss.
