STANFORD - William Whitley House State Historic State preserves the first brick home in Kentucky. It was here that intrepid pioneers William and Esther Whitley and their family lived starting in the late 1780s.
Each year, the park offers a glimpse into a pioneer Christmas celebration with candlelight tours. This year's tours are scheduled 5-9 p.m. Dec. 5 and 6. The home will be aglow in soft candlelight as visitors tour the graceful house, with its fascinating architectural features, including a hidden passageway.
The historic site's gift shop will feature Kentucky handcrafts, books and more. Admission is $4 for adults, $2 for children age 7 to 12.
For more information, call the park at (606) 355-2881. The park is about 10 miles south of Stanford off U.S. 150.
