Montgomery Gentry bus tour to raise funds for toy drive

November 25, 2003

Eddie Montgomery, county music singer, will call Danville "My Town" as he raises money for the Christmas Toy Drive. The Montgomery Gentry tour buses will be set up Sunday near the Danville Fire Station to allow fans to look and to help raise money and awareness for the local toys program.

Montgomery and his wife, Tracy, have offered to let fans tour the group's "home on the road" in exchange for donations to this year's toy drive.

Two Montgomery Gentry tour buses will be in the US Bank parking lot at the corner of Fourth and Main streets from 1-5 p.m. Sunday. Admission for tours is $5 or the donation of a new toy to the Danville Fire Department's toy drive.

Fans can come by and get an intimate look at the inside of the custom coaches used by the duo, whose most recent release is called "My Town." The bus included Montgomery's personal artifacts from the World Trade Center and other unique mementos. He and his wife plan to be at the bus early Sunday afternoon to sign autographs and stand for a few pictures.

Montgomery and his partner, Troy Gentry, have participated in fund-raisers of this type most of their careers. The duo has raised money for several area fire departments.

Danville Fire Chief Mike Thomas said the Montgomerys decided to help families closer to home this year.

The annual Christmas toy drive provides toys, clothing and gifts for needy Boyle County children during the holiday season. All money raised will be used to finance the program and to assist families that otherwise might not have Christmas gifts for their families.
