Two referred to grand jury

in Lincoln County shooting

STANFORD - Two people charged in the shooting of a Lincoln County man appeared in district court Monday for a preliminary hearing.

Lori Phelps, 32, of Waynesburg, and Jon Edwards, 27, of Mitchellsburg, appeared before Judge Bill Oliver, who found probable cause to refer both cases to a grand jury.

Phelps and Edwards were arrested earlier this month after police said Phelps shot Robert Muse, 38, in the face Nov. 12. Edwards was charged with first-degree complicity to the assault.

Five days before the shooting, Muse was indicted in federal court in Lexington on multiple drug and weapons charges, including allegedly carrying a loaded .40 caliber Glock, a semi-automatic pistol, during a drug deal.

During Monday's hearing, bond was lowered from $25,000 to $10,000 - 10 percent cash for Phelps. Edwards' bond remained at $10,000, but also has been amended to 10 percent payable.

Both were ordered to have no further contact with Muse as condition of their bond. They remain in the Lincoln County Regional Jail.

Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the grand jury will not convene Friday, and no December date has been set.|None***
