LIBERTY - A murder charge against a Casey County man has been dismissed in Casey Circuit Court.
The charge against George L. Coffey Jr., 34, of 2049 Clear Branch Road, Liberty, was dismissed without prejudice last week when the suspect had been set for trial. Judge James G. Weddle accepted Commonwealth's Attorney Brian Wright's recommendation on the matter.
This means that the case could be tried if additional evidence is presented.
Coffey, who was arrested two years after the shooting, was accused in the July 24, 2000, shooting death of Roger Roberts, who died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
The only eyewitness to the shooting was Becky Coffey, wife of the suspect. Wright said since she is the wife of suspect, she could not be made to testify in the trial.
