Bikers in Christmas parade; plan toy drive

The Concerned Bikers of Kentucky Inc. will participate in the Heart of Danville Christmas parade Friday. The theme is "Helping One Child at a Time."

The Concerned Bikers also will make a trip Dec. 13 to the University of Kentucky's Cancer Center in Lexington. Santa Claus will deliver toys to the children.

Anyone who wishes to donate toys for the project may put them in the sled at the parade or take to Sonic on Hustonville Road. A box is available for the collection.


The toys must be new and for children from infant to teenagers. Toys are needed by Dec. 12.

The Concerned Bikers also will have a Santa and His Sled at Sonic for viewing. Pictures will be taken with Santa from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday.

Wellness Center looking for logo

McDowell Wellness Center is seeking the talent of local artists to design the logo that will be used with its inaugural 10K race in May. Ideas should be submitted to the wellness center no later than Dec. 30.

All logos will be judged, and the winning artist will get a one-year paid membership to the center.

All designs should include the name of the race - McDowell Wellness Center 10K - and the date of the race, May 15. The winning logo will be used on T-shirts that will be given to race participants and all other promotional material for the race. Entries will be judged on creativity.

The winning design will be selected and announced by Jan. 9. It will be displayed at the wellness center.

Auditions set for community theater play

Auditions for "Over the River and Through the Woods" will be held from 7-9 p.m. Dec. 8 and 9 at West T. Hill Community Theatre. Roles are available for two couples, grandparent-types, and one couple, 20's or 30's. Rehearsals will begin in January.

'Winter Snack and Shop' at BCMS

A Winter Snack and Shop will be 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Friday at Boyle County Middle School.

This is an opportunity to shop at the winter book fair, which is open to the public. Door prizes, discounts, free gift wrapping and refreshments will be available.

Pictures with Santa available

Heart of Danville will sponsor Pictures with Santa from 2-4 p.m. Dec. 11 at P.S. and Co. on Main Street; 9-11 a.m. Dec. 13 at Bank One; 3-5 p.m. Dec. 18 at Danville Family Chiropractic; and noon to 5 p.m. Dec. 19 at Heritage Community Bank.

A Santa Run will begin at 6 p.m. Dec. 9 at Danville Bike and Fitness. Free photos will be taken from 6:15 to 7:30 p.m.

Breakfast with Santa at fire department

Children can meet Santa Claus at the Danville Fire Department's Breakfast with Santa from 8:30-10:30a.m. Saturday at the Main Street fire station.

Santa will meet with children and parents to pose for photographs to raise money for the 2003 Christmas Toy Drive.

Admission to the breakfast is $5 or a new toy. After breakfast, Santa will listen to children's Christmas wishes.

Juniors can apply for scholars program

Applications for the 2004 Governor's Scholars Program are available for 11th-grade students at Danville High School.

The five-week, residential summer program is for outstanding Kentucky students completing their junior year in high school.

It will be held on the campuses of Northern Kentucky University, Centre College and Eastern Kentucky University. Students who are selected attend the program free of charge.
