The Somerset couple accused of attempting to sell their baby in the Danville Wal-Mart parking lot Nov. 30, 2002, appeared in court together Tuesday.
Anthony Wayne Hart, 39, and his wife, Kathie Lee Hart, 36, are charged with attempting to sell a child for adoption, a Class D felony in Kentucky carrying a maximum penalty of five years in jail if convicted.
At Tuesday's hearing in Boyle Circuit Court, Judge Darren Peckler set a status hearing for 9 a.m., Feb. 6, for both.
The Wal-Mart incident was arranged by various law enforcement agencies including Kentucky State Police, Danville Police, Pulaski County Sheriff's office and Somerset police. In the meeting, an Anderson County couple cooperated with police and allegedly attempted to purchase the Harts' child for $3,000.
