Jackson scores 1,000th point in Danville victory

Krystal Jackson scored her 1,000th career point as the Danville girls opened their season with a 72-28 rout of Harrodsburg.

Jackson had 15 points, eight assists and seven rebounds for the Lady Admirals. She reached the 1,000-point mark on a third-quarter layup and finished the game with 1,004 points.

"Krystal's done a lot for the Danville basketball program," Danville coach Justin Schommer said. "She's been playing since the eighth grade. Each year she's improved her scoring average, and the last couple of years she's improved her assists at the same time."

Tasha Milby also had 15 points for Danville (1-0), and Monica Vonderbrink had nine rebounds.

Danville outrebounded Harrodsburg 45-29 and forced 17 turnovers while committing only 12.

The Lady Admirals shot 43 percent (29-for-68) from the field and hit nine of 12 free throws, while Harrodsburg hit just 19 percent (9-for-48) of its shots from the field and just 10 of 33 free throws.


"For the first game, I was pretty pleased," Schommer said.

Sarah Roach led Harrodsburg (0-2) with eight points.

Burgin 55, Model 43 - At Danville, Burgin (2-0) overcame poor shooting to rally past Model in a Bluegrass Conference Tournament semifinal.

The Lady Bulldogs shot just 27 percent (17-for-63) from the field and went 18-for-37 at the free-throw line, but coach Keith Monson said defense carried them into the championship game, where they will face Berea at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kentucky School for the Deaf.

"We couldn't throw it in the ocean ... but our defense was outstanding," Monson said.

Burgin had 13 steals and committed only nine turnovers.

Model led 42-33 after three quarters but scored only one point in the fourth period.

Taylor Bottoms led Burgin with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Andrea Warner had eight points, and Meredith Lear and Ericka Waggener added six rebounds each.
