The Boyle County Rebels won a record fifth straight Kentucky high school football championship by demolishing Fort Thomas Highlands 44-10 Saturday at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium in Louisville.
Leading by just 14-10 at halftime, the Rebels (15-0) dominated the second half to win the Class AAA title.
Boyle has won 25 straight playoff games, another state record.
Quarterback Brandon Smith was named the game's MVP. Smith gained 141 yards rushing on 18 carries and threw for 201 yards, completing 15 of 23 passes with one interception. He ran for four touchdowns and threw for one.
Smith had a 76-yard TD run in the first half.
The Rebels had 450 yards in total offense, rushing for 249 yards on 38 carries and passing for 201 yards.
Boyle held Highlands (12-3) to 250 yards in total offense. The Bluebirds rushed for 170 yards and passed for 80.
