The Danville Children's Choir has reached a milestone rarely achieved by American artistic groups. The organization is now older than most of its members.
The choir, one of only five community children's choruses in Kentucky, was founded in 1990 with 13 Danville and Boyle County singers, all in grades 4 through 6. The auditioned choir quickly picked up new members from across central Kentucky each year as its busy concert schedule took it to New York, Philadelphia, Chicago, Knoxville, New Orleans and Orlando.
The enrollment this season stands at 30 members in grades 4 through 12. Singers come from five counties and 17 schools.
Their performances in 2004 will include return concerts at Covington's historic Cathedral Basilica and the Rockefeller Chapel at the University of Chicago.
