Team effort lifts Boyle by Lincoln

Garrard beats Burgin

Boyle County got a total team effort in defeating Lincoln County 45-39 Monday at Stanford.

No Rebel scored more than nine points, and five different players chipped in six each for Boyle (2-3, 1-2 45th District).

Lincoln (0-4, 0-1) trailed by nine points at the half, but drew to within five at 36-31 after three quarters. However, Boyle held on for the win.

Allie Hafley led the Rebels with nine points. Boyle won the rebounding battle 35-33 behind 10 rebounds from Ashley Chalk and nine from Tiffany Webb.


Shawna Noakes had 14 rebounds, nine of them on the offensive end, to lead the Pats in that category. Jenny Ralston had a game-high 19 points for Lincoln.

Lincoln was just 12-for-53 from the field, a 23 percent mark, and hit just 5 of 27 3-pointers. Boyle, on the other hand, hit 40 percent of its shots (14-for-35) from the field and 4 of 10 from behind the arc.

Neither team was on fire from the free-throw line, as Boyle was 13-for-27 and Lincoln hit 10 of 20.

Garrard County 68, Burgin 26 - At Burgin, the Golden Lions jumped out to an 18-5 lead after one quarter on their way to their first win of the season.

Garrard led 49-19 after a third quarter in which the Bulldogs (3-3, 0-2 46th District) scored just one point, then closed out the game with a 19-7 fourth quarter.

Andrea Adams had 16 points and Wendy Logan 15 for Garrard (1-5, 1-0).

Burgin was just 8-for-38 from the field for 21 percent and 6 of 14 on free throws, a 43 percent mark. The Bulldogs had 11 rebounds and 18 turnovers.

"We can't play a whole lot worse," Burgin coach Keith Monson said. "We're not getting any leadership out of our older players. We're not clicking on all cylinders, but we'll regroup and be a better basketball team."
