I must say I disagree with the letter written by Danville resident James Hoover who claimed in a recent letter that Saddam Hussein should be tried before a world court.
While I respect Mr. Hoover's opinion, I don't feel as if putting Hussein on trial in front of the International Criminal Court is a good idea and here's why:
The ICC only has jurisdiction over war crimes for the last several years because it is a new international organization. That would let Hussein off on many of his crimes against humanity and his neighbors because most of those atrocities were committed in the 1980s. Furthermore, by not putting Hussein on trial in Iraq, we only lend credence to the beliefs of radical Iraqis that we are becoming an imperialistic force in their country and one that will not let them try this evil, despicable leader.
