Katherine Samples

Katherine Samples, 78, died Saturday at Fort Logan Hospital, Stanford. Arrangements are incomplete at Stith Funeral Home.

Harold C. Bell

Harold Christie "Chris" Bell, 90, of McDowell Place, formerly of West Virginia, died Wednesday at Ephraim McDowell Regional Medical Center.

Born June 14, 1913, in Berryville, Va., he was a son of the late Victor Allen and Leona Elizabeth Christie Bell. He was the widower of Christine Wooten Bell.

He was retired from Island Creek Coal Co. Stores Division. He was a former member of the Virginia National Guard, a member of First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), where he was an elder, deacon and trustee, and a member of Gideons International in Logan, W.Va.


He was a graduate of John Handley High School in Winchester, W.Va., a member of Aracoma Masonic Lodge, Logan Chapter 41, Logan Commandery 20, and the Logan and Charleston Scottish Rite Bodies. He was a past member and officer of the Knights of Pythias of Logan, and longtime Kiwanis Club member in Delbarton W.Va., past president of AARP in Logan, W.Va., and former member of Tug Valley, W.Va., Chamber of Commerce. He also was instrumental in starting the 4-H Club and the Golden Gloves Club in Mingo County, W.Va.

Survivors include a daughter, Betty Lykins of Danville; a brother, Frederick Bell of Princeton, W.Va.; a sister, Betty Bell Grove of Bluemont, Va.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a son, William Frederick Bell.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at Honaker Funeral Home, Logan, W.Va. Burial with Masonic rites will be in Highland Memory Gardens in Logan.

Visitation is 6:30-9 p.m. today.

Stith Funeral Home is in charge of local arrangements.

Edward G. Hoskins

CRAB ORCHARD - Edward G. Hoskins, 86, of Paoli, Ind., formerly of Crab Orchard, died Friday at Paoli Health and Living Community Center.

Born Feb. 15, 1917, in Rockcastle County, he was the son of the late Matt and Verinda Shelton Hoskins.

He was a farmer and honorably discharged Army veteran of World War II, where he received an American Theatre Ribbon and European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with three bronze stars. He also received a World War II Victory medal and Good Conduct medal.

Survivors include a sister, June Genton of Crab Orchard.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. today at Crab Orchard Cemetery by Dan Gutenson.

Local arrangements were handled by McKnight Funeral Home.

Mary C. Adams

HARRODSBURG - Mary Cleland Adams, 86, of Louisville, formerly of Beaumont Avenue, Harrodsburg, died Friday in Louisville.

Born Feb. 2, 1917, in Harrodsburg, she was the daughter of the late John Cleland and Ella Sweeney Adams.

She was a Civil Service clerk for the United States government and a member of Harrodsburg United Presbyterian Church.

Survivors include a cousin, Margaret C. Lynn of Harrodsburg.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Joe Tarry. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Harold Davis, Howard Howells, Tom Moore, Henry Grall, Andrew Alexander and David Weber.

Visitation is 3-6 p.m. today at Ransdell Funeral Chapel.

Memorials may go to a charity of choice.

Helen D. Robinson

HARRODSBURG - Helen Drury Robinson, 98, formerly of Mooreland Avenue, Harrodsburg, died Friday at Charleston Health Care Center, Danville.

Born Sept. 20, 1905, in Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late William M. and Cordie Thompson Drury. She was the widow of Ben Robinson.

She was a retired homemaker and member of Clay Lick United Methodist Church in Salvisa.

Survivors include two granddaughters; two great-granddaughters; and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Pauline Robinson Lawson.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Monday at Ransdell Funeral Chapel by Rue Henderson. Burial will be in Spring Hill Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Wes Shumate, Bill Robinson, Robert Spears, Darrell and David Waterfill, Jennings Burns, and Cecil Riley.

Honorary pallbearers will be Linwood and Gertrude Chilton, Loraine Robinson, Clara Graft, Martha Moore, John Cornett and staff members of the Charleston Health Care Center.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. today and after 7:30 a.m. Monday.

Jessie A. Petree

HARRISON, OHIO - Jessie Alien Petree, 69, of Harrison, formerly of Crab Orchard, died Thursday in Cincinnati.

Born Aug. 5, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Cleveland and Jenetta Merrell Brock. She was the widow of Clyde Petree.

She was a former employee for U.S. Shoe and a member of New Haven Road Church of God.
