HARRODSBURG - Joseph and Rebecca Wilson, the couple allegedly caught on surveillance tape during the burglary of a Mercer County home, surrendered to the Lincoln County Sheriff's Department Monday afternoon.

"They just walked in and said they wanted to turn themselves in," Karen Lakes said today. She said they arrived between 2-2:30 p.m. Chief Mercer County Deputy Sheriff Rick Moberly said Monday that he had heard the pair wanted to turn themselves in on Sunday, but it did not happen.

The couple were transported from the Lincoln County jail to the Boyle County Detention Center at about 10 p.m. Monday by Mercer County Deputy Sheriff Chris Kehrt, the deputy said.

The couple were allegedly the people recorded on a surveillance tape while burglarizing the home of the Bruce Ashford family on Sexton Lane. Personal items and electronics, all valued at more than $1,400, were taken from the Mercer County home.

The Mercer County crimes were only two of a myriad of charges throughout central Kentucky against Joseph Wilson, 34. He and his wife, Rebecca Wilson, 26, both of 885 Goshen Road in Lincoln County, are charged with second-degree burglary and felony theft by unlawful taking in Mercer County.

Tasha Macon of the Boyle County jail said she had indictments for Joseph Wilson from Garrard County for one count of first-degree burglary, two counts of second-degree burglary, three counts of felony theft by unlawful taking, and being a persistent felony offender.

Macon said the jail also has bench warrants from Fayette and Jessamine counties for failure to appear in court, and a Clark County charge of first-degree burglary.

Harrodsburg Police Department Detective Sgt. Garry Bradshaw, who has been assisting the Mercer County Sheriff's office with the case, said other counties where charges had been filed would know of the arrests by a notification put out by the Mercer County Sheriff's office. He also said the story had been broadcast on Lexington television.

In addition to the Mercer county charges, Rebecca Wilson is charged with first-degree burglary in Clark County.

Bond has not been set for the pair on the Mercer County charges, Macon said. A blanket bond for Joseph Wilson for the Garrard indictments and the failure to appear charges is set for $10,270.52.
