Lincoln County's Peek playing at UK tonight

LEXINGTON - Former Lincoln County standout Cassandra Peek will be back close to home playing tonight when Austin Peay takes on Kentucky at Memorial Coliseum here at 7 p.m.

Kentucky (6-4) takes a two-game win streak into tonight's game while Austin Peay (5-4) is coming off a 65-60 win over Lipscomb College.

Peek, a junior guard, leads the Governors in assists (4.3 per game) and steals (16). She is third in minutes played at 33.6 minutes per game.

She is averaging 7.7 points and 3.3 rebounds per game while shooting 40 percent overall from the field as well as 40 percent from 3-point range. She's a 64.5 percent free throw shooter.


Kentucky has won all four previous games against Austin Peay and is 72-16 against Ohio Valley Conference teams. The two teams have not met since Kentucky won 88-52 on Nov. 19, 1999.

Three players are averaging in double figures for Austin Peay. Senior forward Gerlonda Hardin leads the team with 15.2 points per game while sophomores Ashley Haynes and Kera Bergeron follow with 13.6 and 11, respectively.

First-year coach Andy Blackston took over for Susie Gardner, who is now the head coach at Arkansas. Blackston came to Austin Peay from Alabama-Huntsville.

"We are glad to return home after being on the road for three straight games," UK coach Mickie DeMoss said. "We played our best game yet at Western Kentucky before Christmas break and hopefully we can put a complete game together again versus Austin Peay."

Senior SeSe Helm leads UK in scoring and rebounding and had consecutive double-doubles in wins over Western and Miami. Junior Sara Potts and sophomore Jenny Pfeiffer have both scored in double-digits in five straight games.
