LEXINGTON - Kentucky picked up two more verbal commitments for its 2004 recruiting class Monday when Georgia defensive back Trevard Lindley and Cincinnati quarterback Ben McGrath said they would join the Cats.
Counting the five junior college players already enrolled at UK for the second semester, that increases the commitments for Rich Brooks' recruiting class to 22. That's the maximum number of scholarships the Cats expect to have to offer.
However, two players - running back Joe Casey of Paducah and lineman Brandon Fitzgerald of Ballard Memorial - have already indicated they will have to go to junior college for academic reasons. Kentucky could also have other players wait until January, 2005, to enroll and have them count on the 2005 recruiting class.
Lindley will not make his official visit to Kentucky for two weeks, but the 6-1, 180-pound defensive back went ahead Monday and made his decision. He was also being recruited by Illinois, LSU, North Carolina and Cincinnati even though a dislocated kneecap disrupted his senior season.
