Mercer finishes third at Hazard tourney

The Mercer County boys earned a third-place finish in the Hazard Invitational with a 78-65 win over Louisville Christian on Saturday.

Clif Watkins had 21 points and Kameron McRay had 19.

MERCER - Clif Watkins 21, Kameron McRay 19, Jordan Lyons 13, John Lyons 10, Andrew McCloud 4, Michael Bottoms 6, Calen Hazelwood 3, Bill Davis 2.

LOUISVILLE CHRISTIAN - Hornback 13, Peterson 18, Mills 4, Elmore 13, Boudreaux 4, Jones 2, Greshchel 4, Warren 2, Braughen 5.

Burgin 76, Jackson City 47 - At Burgin, Joe Harris had 22 points and eight rebounds to lead Burgin to an easy win over Jackson City.

Harris went 8-for-10 from the field. Zack Gross added 16 points and Sean Bottoms had 15.

Gross had nine rebounds and seven assists; Daniel Howard had seven rebounds.

JACKSON CITY (2-5) - Mike Ritchie 7, Jordan Fugate 2, Steve Van Zant 5, Mike Hensky 2, Brandon Curtis 15, Richard Combs 7, Chase Thompson 2, Kyle Howard 7.

BURGIN (5-3) - Zack Gross 16, Sean Bottoms 15, Joe Harris 22, Daniel Howard 6, Bobby Wylie 4, Daniel Lone 2, Jordan Darling 2, Shane Trayner 6, Josh Carey 3.

GIRLS

Burgin 60, Harrodsburg 41 - At Harrodsburg, Taylor Bottoms scored 23 points to lead Burgin to a 46th District win over Harrodsburg.

Bottoms had 20 points in the first half, then had all six of her assists in the second half. She also had nine rebounds.
