Pioneers top Burgin 55-50

HARRODSBURG - The Harrodsburg boys maintained their early lead in the 46th District race by beating Burgin 55-50 Monday night.

Justin Doolin scored 19 points and Mark Dunn had 16 rebounds to lead the Pioneers (3-6, 2-0), who have won three of their last four games after an 0-5 start and hold a one-game lead over Mercer County in the district standings.

Harrodsburg controlled this game by controlling the boards, outrebounding Burgin 44-31.

"They were quicker off their feet than we were, and they beat us on the boards real bad," Burgin coach Don Irvine said. "That's where they hurt us pretty bad tonight."

Sean Bottoms had 19 points and Joe Harris had 13 for Burgin (5-4, 1-2).

Mariqus Brown had 13 points for Harrodsburg, while Mark Dunn added 12.


North Laurel 71, Boyle County 63, OT - At Danville, North Laurel (6-4) hit 13 free throws in overtime to pull away from Boyle (4-7).


Boyle rallied to send the game to overtime, outscoring North Laurel 16-11 in the final period. But North Laurel outscored the Lady Rebels 15-7 in the extra period despite only one field goal.

The Lady Jaguars were 27-for-33 at the free-throw line overall.

"We were in the game," Boyle coach Judie Mason said. "It was by far the best game we've played all year.

"We've just got to learn how to finish the games."
