Steven Hoeck, former president of the Boyle/Mercer County Task Force on Child Abuse, appeared before Boyle Circuit Judge Darren Peckler Tuesday for a status hearing, and the date was set for his pretrial hearing.
Hoeck will appear again March 2 with attorney Ephraim Helton in the next step before a possible trial on two charges of first-degree sexual abuse and one count of first-degree criminal abuse, all of a male under 12 years old. He remains free on a $10,000 bond.
One of the alleged sexual abuses and the alleged criminal abuse charge occurred between May 15, 1997, and May 6, 1998. The second count of sexual abuse is alleged to have occurred between July 1, 2000, and April 15, 2001.
The sexual abuse charges are Class D felonies, which carry a mandatory sentence of 1-5 years in prison, according to the commonwealth attorney's office. The criminal abuse count is a Class C felony, which carries a mandatory 5-10 year prison sentence.
