Centre College safety John Ortega has been named third team All-American by D3football.com and the Division III Sports Information Directors of America.
Ortega was selected from 385 nominations nationwide. He led the Centre defense in tackles, averaging over 10 a game, including two interceptions and a blocked kick.
"John has prepared extremely hard to be an outstanding football player," said Centre coach Andy Frye. "He is the best player I've ever coached closing on a play. He has tremendous acceleration to go along with great talent. He's one of the reasons our defense excelled this fall."
Ortega is a three-time all-conference football player, an all-conference baseball player, and he made the all-tournament team in basketball last year during the conference tournament. Ortega is the first Centre athlete to start in these three sports since the 1950s.
