BURGIN - The Burgin girls scored only five points in the second and third periods Thursday night but rallied in the fourth for a 34-32 win over Sayre.
Burgin (7-5) saw the 17-9 lead it held after one quarter evaporate when it scored just two points in the second quarter and three in the third. But the Lady Bulldogs outscored Sayre (4-3) 12-6 in the final period to secure their third straight win.
Burgin coach Keith Monson said defense carried his team when the shots weren't falling.
"That's how we won the ballgame," Monson said. "We could not score ourselves, but we played good enough to win, and that's whats important. And one of these nights the shots will start falling.
The Lady Bulldogs shot just 23.2 percent (13-for-56) from the field and hit just five of 10 free throws.
"We couldn't buy one," Monson said.
Andrea Warner had a game-high 13 points for Burgin, and Stephanie Stewart rebounded in double figures for the second straight game with 10 of the team's 32 boards. Taylor Bottoms added seven rebounds.
