This winter, the Centre College art program presents a ceramics exhibit and sale titled "Contrast by Conflagration," by visiting artist Anthony Wolking.
Wolking has been a teacher and potter in the Northern Kentucky area since 1996. He received a bachelor's degree in art in 1994 from Morehead State University, and after working towards a master of arts degree at MSU for three semesters, he chose to seek some real-life experience by returning to his home town to start a production studio. It took nearly a year to complete the construction of a 40 cubic foot salt kiln and primitive studio on a friend's farmland.
Wolking has held teaching positions at The Baker Hunt Foundation and Shawnee State University, where he taught ceramics. Through these experiences, Wolking realized his passion for teaching.
"It is something that inspires, motivates, and challenges me," he says.
Wolking currently is serving as a graduate assistant for the Centre College art program.
