LIBERTY - A new school that will consolidate Middleburg and Garrett elementary schools in the eastern portion of Casey County will be named Jones Park Elementary School.
The county Board of Education agreed on the name Monday after the school design committee suggested it.
Dale Wilson, director of pupil personnel, who has been working with the school design committee, said the name is appropriate and is tied to the heritage of the county.
The school is to be located on Ky. 70 east of the high school and is named for the Quince Jones family which opened up a playground where family and neighbors played tennis and other sports in the early 1900s. Jones also was active in the Middleburg school activities and was one of several local citizens who bought the old Middleburg School and gave it to the school system.
