Although I agree (with staff writer Katherine Belcher) that Pete Rose was an outstanding player and contributed greatly to the game of baseball, I also believe that his new book is an attempt for glory and monetary gain. His apology is only surface thin, and he continues to make excuses for his illegal behavior and to blame others for a myriad of things.
I sincerely hope that major league baseball and the commissioner do not give in to this juvenile ploy. Pete can wait his time and let the Hall of Famers decide later on. That way, Pete Rose the baseball player can be honored while Pete Rose the man can bear the consequences of his actions.
Maybe it should all wait for a posthumous award; we can all then remember the ballplayer and not the whiner we have heard these past 14 years.
