Community needs an indoor place to walk

January 16, 2004

Dear Editor:

I'm now in a middle-aged woman who's gotten that spare tire on big hips.

And now that winter has come and it's really too cold to go to the park and walk, where am I go?

Please don't say the Wellness Center, or join a gym.

My husband and I live on a very small income and can't afford to join those places. I even tried walking around Wal-Mart, but there are those who think that I might be looking to shoplift all of those "roll back" goodies. Don't go there unless you buy.

I'm just asking: Why isn't there a place for poor people to walk?

In the spring, summer and fall, the parks are a wonderful place to walk, but we need a place to walk inside during the winter.
