Lady Scotties bounce back from rare regional loss with win over Burgin

BURGIN - The Mercer County girls bounced back from a shocking loss Friday night to defeat Burgin 83-38 in a 46th District game Saturday night.

Chelsea Goodman scored a game-high 28 points for the Lady Scotties, who saw their 23-game winning streak against 12th Region opponents end 24 hours earlier with a 61-59 loss at South Laurel.

Mercer (11-5, 4-0 district) also got 15 points from Jillian Horn, 13 from Chrystal Claunch and 12 from Erica Lee.

Burgin (8-6, 1-3) trailed by only 10 points at halftime at 30-20 but was outscored 30-8 in the third quarter and 53-18 in the second half.

"We were playing a pretty nice game ... and in the third quarter we folded under Mercer's pressure," Burgin coach Keith Monson said.


Burgin shot 40.6 percent from the field but got off only 32 shots, going 3-for-12 from 3-point range and 10-for-20 inside the arc.

Taylor Bottoms led the Lady Bulldogs with nine points, 10 rebounds and three assists.
