Two charged after Casey crash

LIBERTY - Two men were charged after a two-vehicle crash Saturday evening on Ky. 49 two miles north of here, police said.

Mark Edward McElroy, 46, of 153 Denson Road, Liberty, was charged with third offense driving under the influence of intoxicants, driving with a license suspended for DUI, and no insurance, according to Casey County Sheriff Jerry Coffman.

McElroy's passenger, George Wethington, 48, of Lexington, was charged with alcohol intoxication. Both were injured. McElroy was flown to the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, and Wethington was taken to Casey County Hospital.


McElroy's vehicle crossed the center line and struck an oncoming car driven by Donna Turpin, 45, of 1680 Peyton Ridge Road. She and a passenger, Austin Rayborn, 2, of 1680 Peyton Ridge Road, were treated for injuries at the Casey hospital.

Two dirt bikes, go-kart stolen in Casey

LIBERTY - Michael Frost of Via San Migel Lane, Liberty, reported two dirt bikes, a Honda and an ATK, each 250 cc, stolen Friday night. Casey County Deputy Sheriff Dennis Allen said the investigation into the burglary and theft is continuing.

The sheriff's department also is investigating the theft of a go-kart Saturday night from a building at the Bearl Rodgers residence at 14 Durham Circle, Yosemite. The red 6.5 horsepower Magnum go-kart with roll bar is valued $1,400.

Woman hurt in Garrard car crash

LANCASTER - A 73-year-old woman was seriously injured late Sunday in a single-car accident on Copper Creek Road in Garrard County, state police said.

Thelma Lawson was heading east on Copper Creek shortly after 10 p.m. when her 1992 Toyota Tercel drove through a patch of water, slid off the roadway, struck a ditch and turned over several times, according to state police at Richmond. Police did not give Lawson's address.

Lawson suffered severe head trauma. She was listed in serious condition today at University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said.
