Centre College hired eight new faculty members for the 2003-04 academic year.
Dean John C. Ward said the new class of professors is a particularly strong one.
"Our searches, conducted on a national scale, invited top-flight applicants from all over the country," Ward said in a news release. "These new appointments were made from extremely competitive fields of candidates, so Centre was fortunate to recruit the very best. Centre College will be a better place as a result of their teaching and research activities."
The new faculty members are:
* Robert Colter, assistant professor of philosophy. Colter holds a Ph.D. in philosophy from Northwestern University, a master of arts degree in classics from the University of Colorado and a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from the University of Puget Sound. He was previously visiting assistant professor at Michigan State University.
* Sarah Goodrum, assistant professor of sociology. She holds a Ph.D. and an M.A. in sociology from the University of Texas at Austin and a B.A. in sociology from Texas A&M University. She comes to Centre from the University of Kentucky, where she was a National Institute of Mental Health postdoctoral research fellow in the Department of Behavioral Science.
