I want to know what our world has come to when a parent cannot discipline a child in public without fear of criminal repercussions? In a country in which parents have to fear the criminal element that seeks to harm their children, I never dreamed that I would be considered one of them.
On Saturday night, I disciplined my 7-year old son in the Wal-Mart parking lot with a good old-fashioned spanking on the behind consisting of three open handed smacks. (Of note is the fact that they were of such a light nature that he didn't even cry as a result.) Nevertheless, an hour later two police officers knocked on my door because of a call from a "good Samaritan" who had taken down my license number and had filed a report of child abuse for the "beating of a child." Needless to say, the officers took one look at my children, got the correct version from the lips of my son himself who added that he deserved his punishment and left, actually thanking me for disciplining my child, saving them the trouble of doing it later in life.
