TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Centre College became the first Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's team ever to win at DePauw and Rose-Hulman on the same weekend when it beat host Rose-Hulman 66-60 Sunday.
The Colonels (12-3, 4-1 SCAC) beat DePauw 63-47 Friday before handing Rose-Hulman its first conference loss Sunday. "We did not have our best first half, especially defensively, and were behind 34-27 at halftime," said Centre coach Greg Mason. "James Booker kept us in the game with his scoring and play the first half and Rose-Hulman also let us stay close with some shaky free throw shooting.
"The second half we defended well, rebounded better and Rob King made a big difference with his overall play. We also hit our free throws (18-for-22) and that was the big difference in the game."
Balanced scoring was another big key as the Colonels had six players score between eight and 12 points. Booker led the way with 12 points while Kyle Roby had 11 points, three assists and two steals and Reggie Magnusson, who was limited to 19 minutes because of foul trouble and a minor second-half injury, had 10.
