Danville Kids University kicks off a new session Saturday with new funding and new leadership.
The office of U.S. Sen. Jim Bunning announced today that $150,000 for DKU is among $4 million in federal education and health funds for Kentucky programs included in the fiscal 2004 Ominus Appropriations Bill.
In another new development, Patti Rowland, technology resource and curriculum teacher at Hogsett Elementary School and the 2004 Kentucky Teacher of the Year, will replace Mardi Montgomery as program director. Montgomery, whose full-time position was elementary gifted and talented teacher, recently was named deputy secretary of the Kentucky Education Cabinet.
This session of DKU will be held over a period of seven, non-consecutive Saturdays at Bate Middle School for 90 high-achieving third-, fourth- and fifth-graders seeking to bolster their academic and computer skills.
