LANCASTER - A Garrard grand jury recently indicted 13 people, including a couple allegedly involved in the burglary and vandalism of Ron's Mini Market on Dec. 3.

Wesley A. Jackson, 25, and Betty Sue Jackson, 24, both of 2663 Gillespie Pike, Paint Lick, were indicted on charges of third-degree burglary, theft by unlawful taking over $300, third-degree criminal mischief, tampering with physical evidence and possession of drug paraphernalia. Wesley Jackson also was indicted on charges of violating a Kentucky Emergency Protective Order by being within 300 feet of his wife, Betty S. Jackson.

According to reports, officers were investigating a possible burglary at Ron's Mini Market, when evidence at the scene led officers to suspect an insider. Damage was done to the inside of the store to conceal the crime, reported police.

Further investigation led them to the Jackson's residence, where they found Wesley Jackson hiding under a bed with three money bags and "suspected marijuana and marijuana pipe in plain view," wrote police.

His wife allegedly told police Wesley Jackson was hiding there, and was not supposed to be due to a standing protective order.

A safe yielded two "extremely large bags of cash" reported police. Also uncovered at the residence was a surveillance video from the store and numerous lottery tickets suspected to be stolen. The cash stolen was estimated to have been $11,000. Damage to the store, including the front door glass Wesley allegedly broke with a rock, was estimated at $350.

Lancaster Police Department's Willie Skeens was the grand jury witness.
