Pitts hits big shots for Patriots

Burgin wins, but Boyle loses

Megan Pitts hit seven of 10 3-point shots Thursday night to lead the Lincoln County girls to a 63-31 win over McCreary Central at Stanford.

Pitts scored a game-high 24 points for the Lady Patriots, who put McCreary away with a 30-point fourth quarter to secure their third straight win.

Lincoln (7-12) was 10-for-20 from 3-point range and shot 40.7 percent (24-for-59) overall from the field.

The Lady Patriots held a 20-13 halftime lead, and the margin stayed near that until the fourth quarter, when they outscored McCreary 30-7.

Jenny Ralston had 11 points, four steals and three assists for Lincoln, which had nine assists and 17 steals. Jamie Duncan also had four steals.


McCreary (9-10) shot 40 percent (12-for-30) from the field, but the Lady Raiders were restricted by 28 turnovers.

Lincoln got 15 offensive rebounds as part of a 29-20 edge on the boards, led by Gwen Hardwick with seven rebounds and Jessica Ryan with six.

Burgin 70, Bourbon County 57 - At Paris, Stephanie Stewart had 19 points and 18 rebounds to lead Burgin (11-8) over Bourbon (1-14).

Andrea Warner added 17 points and Bev Harris had 15 for the Lady Bulldogs.

Burgin coach Keith Monson said he was most pleased with the team's rebounding. Burgin had 47 boards, led by Stewart and Taylor Bottoms with eight.

"That's something we haven't been doing, and we worked hard in practice all week, and it really came through," Monson said.

Burgin shot 36.7 percent (22-for-60) from the field and hit 18 of 34 free throws to dispatch Bourbon.

Pulaski County 51, Boyle County 37 - At Danville, Boyle (4-12) suffered its eighth straight loss as Pulaski (16-4) kept the Lady Rebels at bay in the second half.

Boyle got eight points each from Allie Hafley and Kate Edmiston, while Pulaski got 18 from Victoria Link and 15 from Tara Combs.

Boyle hit eight of 15 free throws; Pulaski was 10-for-21 at the line.
