Three Ads fourth in Danville invitational

Three Danville wrestlers earned fourth place in their respective brackets Saturday in the 17-team Danville Invitational at Kentucky School for the Deaf.

Matt Booth (140 pounds), Darren Ross (171) and Derrick Lang (189) all reached the third-place match before bowing. All three received medals; Booth's was his first of the year.

In the third place matches, Booth lost a 12-3 decision to John Goldsby of Holmes, Ross was pinned by Dave Alexander of Franklin County and Lang was pinned by Scotty Combs of Pike County Central.

Ross, Matt Booth and Chris Booth (125) each advanced to the semifinals before losing to fall into the consolation round, where third place is the best possible finish.


"It was a strong tournament, probably the strongest tournament we've been in," Danville coach Jeff Selby said.

Dylan Hester (130) claimed a fifth-place finish, winning the fifth-place match by forfeit, while Chris Booth finished sixth after losing a 6-4 decision to Dixie Heights' Jeff Taylor in his fifth-place match.

Hester finished with the best record of any of the seven Danville wrestlers in the tournament at 4-1. Lang was 3-2.

Seneca easily won the team competition, outscoring second-place Paul Dunbar 2781/2-142. Danville was 12th.

Dunbar's Zach Brewer, the champion in the heavyweight class, was named the tournament's most valuable wrestler.
