Members of the Kentucky School for the Deaf facilities committee were challenged Tuesday to design a KSD today that will be a model for future schools of its type nationwide.
The committee is in the process of designing a facilities plan for the KSD campus. That plan will be submitted to the Kentucky Department of Education in April.
Fran Hardin, administrator of instruction at KSD, presented a program and facilities "wish list" compiled from suggestions submitted by staff and students. That wish list included items such as covered walkways connecting the buildings, up-to-date technological and instructional equipment, an auditorium, special needs classrooms for the multi-disabled, more outreach services, more interpreters, heating and air conditioning improvements and lighting.
Byron Wilson, faculty representative on the committee, cited the need for improving plumbing, computer labs, presentation equipment and better access to the physical education facilities.
