Ben Chandler challenged his opponent, Alice Forgy Kerr, to a public debate in Danville, but Kerr's campaign, making several Boyle County stops on Friday, said he had an earlier chance and didn't take it.
"The people of Boyle County are tired of the negative attacks. They want an honest debate on the issues," said Chandler. "That's why at the outset of this campaign, I challenged my opponent to run a positive campaign."
Chandler's offer was tied to the condition that Kerr cease running any negative or contrast ads for the duration of the Congressional race. According Chandler, if Kerr's campaign agrees and pulls her negative attacks from the air, the Chandler campaign will pull its response ads the same day, and allow Ms. Kerr to chose the time and place of the Boyle County debate.
"Today, I issue that challenge for an honest, positive campaign again," continued Chandler. "If Ms. Kerr takes down her negative ads, we will take our response ads down and debate her publicly every day until the election, including a debate right here in Danville."
