On behalf of the board of directors and members of the Arts Commission of Danville/Boyle County, I would like to thank this community for its support of the arts. It has not only supported the goals of the board of the Community Arts Center to secure a permanent home for the arts, but this community also has embraced the purpose of the Arts Commission to promote local arts activities.
The Arts Commission has been an advocate for the arts since 1998. Through publication and distribution of ARTScene, a bimonthly calendar/newsletter, the Arts Commission increases awareness of arts events, classes and activities available in this community. The Arts Commission co-sponsors Whimsy in Weisiger concerts and the ArtsAlive! series and produces a festival showcase of local visual and performing arts with Arts in Millennium Park. This past month the Arts Commission's Arts Scholarship Fund awarded scholarships, partially financed by the Art-Full Raffle, to five local arts groups to expand arts experiences for children needing financial assistance. Soon the Arts Commission will introduce a program to encourage and reward attendance at local arts events and will sponsor the first local "gallery hop" later in the year.
