K of C middle school tourney begins Friday

Seven local teams head the field for the 33rd annual Knights of Columbus Middle School Tournament beginning Friday at Boyle County High School.

Sixteen boys teams will compete for the championship of the tournament, the proceeds from which are used by the local Knights of Columbus chapter to support a variety of youth activities in the area.

Play begins with two first-round games Friday night and six more on Saturday. The title game will be played next Thursday.

The Knights of Columbus free-throw contest, held in conjunction with the tournament, will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday.

The contest is open to boys and girls ages 8-14 at no cost. Trophies are awarded in several age groups, along with the chance to advance to statewide competition.

Lincoln County vs. East Jessamine, 6:30 p.m.; King vs. Adair County, 8 p.m.

First Round on Saturday

Bate vs. Frankfort Bondurant, Noon; Boyle County vs. Frankfort Elkhorn, 1:30 p.m.; Garrard vs. Jackson County, 3 p.m.; Casey County vs. Lexington Christian, 4:30 p.m.; Clay County vs. Taylor County, 6 p.m.; Harrodsburg vs. Scott County, 7:30 p.m.

Quarterfinals on Sunday

Lincoln County-East Jessamine winner vs. Bate-Bondurant winner, 1:30 p.m.; Harrodsburg-Scott County winner vs. King-Adair County winner, 3 p.m.

Quarterfinals on Monday

Boyle County-Elkhorn winner vs. Garrard-Jackson County winner, 6:30 p.m.; Casey County-Lexington Christian winner vs. Clay County-Taylor County winner, 8 p.m.

Semifinals on Tuesday

6:30 and 8 p.m.

Finals on Thursday

Third Place 6:30 p.m.

Championship 8 p.m.
