Concerned that Chandler would raise taxes

February 15, 2004

Dear Editor:

I find it interesting that Ben Chandler is against so many of the things that our president is doing to improve our lives. I will not discuss the obvious national security measures that he doesn't think are necessary. I am more concerned about his inability to work with others and in particular that he has come out against president Bush's tax cuts.

Once again we have a career politician who thinks he knows how to spend my money better than I do. I believe the government exists to do for its citizens what they cannot do for themselves. Mr. Chandler's actions indicate that he believes that government is there to collect money for him to spend freely.

Alice Forgy Kerr has stated repeatedly that she supports the president's tax cuts.

I cannot vote for Mr. Chandler because figuratively speaking that would be taking food off of my table and putting it on the table of one of his fat cat lobbyists.

Everyone knows the government has a lousy track record of managing our money, so why would we want to give them more of it to waste?

It was P.J. O'Rourke who said, "Giving money and power to government is like giving whiskey and car keys to teenage boys."
