SAN ANTONIO - Centre College had what coach Greg Mason called its "best defensive intensity in three weeks" here Sunday but it was still not nearly enough to stop host Trinity University from winning 75-61.
"Trinity just played a fantastic game and was at a level I am not sure anyone in our conference could match," said Mason. "Or defensive intensity was the best it had been in three weeks, but Trinity still shot 57.1 percent. Give Trinity credit. They were clearly the better team today."
The winners (19-4, 10-2 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference) took advantage of their size inside to shoot 61.3 percent (19 for 31) in the first half. In the second half, Centre defended the inside better only to see Trinity go 5-for-6 from 3-point range.
"We let them catch the ball too much inside the first half. We corrected that, but then they started making 3-point shots," Mason said.
