Garrard, Lincoln girls lose

February 17, 2004

McCreary Central rallied against Garrard County's girls to force overtime, then outscored the Lady Lions 11-8 in the extra period to pull out a 61-58 victory Monday night at Stearns.

Garrard (9-14) led by three points late in the game, but McCreary (11-12) used late free throws to even the score near the end of regulation.

Garrard coach Jenny Teater said she was pleased with the effort of her team, which was playing shorthanded because starting guard Chelsea Denny missed the game.

"I thought we went down and played them well," Garrard coach Jenny Teater said. "Chelsea wasn't there, some of the girls played the whole game, and they stepped up after a tough loss (Friday) against Boyle County. We executed what we needed to do; it's just tough to go down there and get a win."

Garrard shot 50 percent (20-for-40) from the field, and the Lady Lions were 3-for-8 from 3-point range and 9-for-14 from the free-throw line.

Andrea Adams led the Lady Lions with 16 points and seven rebounds, and Kia Howard added 11 points and seven rebounds. Garrard had 31 rebounds.

Abby Parsons had four steals for Garrard in a game in which neither team led by more than five points.

Lincoln saw its early lead evaporate in the second quarter, and the Lady Patriots scored just eight points in the third period and 12 more in the fourth to lose for the fifth time in six games.

Corbin overcame 20 turnovers by going 24-for-41 (58.5 percent) from the field and 18-for-28 at the free-throw line, and it also outrebounded Lincoln 33-16.
