Rep. Mike Harmon took the high road and provided leadership for the passage of HB 157 in an 80-4 vote. This bill allows some of the 484,000 brain-injured individuals in the state to benefit from what is rightfully theirs, an increase in drunk-driving fees. Why do they deserve this? Because a large percentage of them have been the victims of drunk drivers, and their lives have been permanently altered. Thanks, Representative Harmon.
But none of these individuals will benefit unless HB 157 is sent to the floor by the Senate Appropriations and Revenue Committee for funding. In fact, that committee seems to be refusing to send any funding bills to the floor. Are they planning some bad surprises that will offend their constituents?
Where are you Sen. Dan Kelly? You're one of the leaders on Appropriations and Revenue. Please let all of us know what your plans are. The lives of 484,000 individuals in the state, plus their many loved ones, are counting on you.
