Special Olympics

offers program

FRANKFORT - Special Olympics Kentucky will offer a spring Play Activities Program in Lexington for children from 5 to 7 years old with mental disabilities. The program will consist of six sessions, March 18-April 22. The program will be held each week at 6:30 p.m. at the Southern Hill United Methodist Church, 2356 Harrodsburg Road in Lexington.

The program is designed to meet the recreational needs of young children ages 5-7 with mental disabilities, who are not yet old enough to participate in regular Special Olympics events. The focus of the program is on playing and participating, not on competition.

Participation helps the children develop motor and social skills, helps the children and families to get acquainted with Special Olympics programs and helps prepare the participants for the transition into traditional competitive Special Olympics programs.

There is a $5 fee to participate in the program and participants must have a valid Special Olympics medical form on file in the Special Olympics Kentucky office.

Registration is preferred by March 11, but late registrations may be accommodated.

For more information or to request a medical form, contact Melissa Hardison, field services director, in the Special Olympics Kentucky office at 800-633-7403 or via e-mail at

Not same person

Christopher Owen Slone of Paint Lick, a teacher at Boyle County Middle School, is not the same person as Christopher Scott Slone of Lancaster, who recently pleaded guilty to driving under the influence and who faces a number of drug charges in Garrard County.
