Danville, Lincoln, Boyle shine in Governor's Cup competition

Danville, Lincoln County and Boyle County high schools placed among the top six schools out of a total of 18 that participated in the Governor's Cup Region 12 competition for high schools over the weekend at Berea Community High School.

Danville was ranked second with 23.5 points while Lincoln came in fourth with 11 points and Boyle finished in a tie for sixth with nine points. Garrard County participated in the tournament but received no points.

Berea, the host school, was first with 35.5 points.

The two top individuals and teams in each area of competition will advance to the state tournament in March.

Here are the areas of competition and the rankings of each area student and team in that competition:

Mathematics assessment: Josh Qualls, Boyle, fourth.

Social studies assessment: Stephen Crown-Weber, Danville, first; Logan Sisco, Danville, third; Seth Stogsdill, Lincoln, fifth.

Science assessment: Josh Qualls, Boyle, second; Josh Thomas, Lincoln, fifth.


Language arts assessment: Seth Stogsdill, Lincoln, second.

Composition: Molly Weston, Danville, second.

Arts and humanities assessment: Emily Reese, Danville, first; Stephen Crown-Weber, Danville, third; Kim Milburn, Danville, fifth.

Quick recall team: Lincoln, second; Danville, third.

Future problem solving team: Boyle, third.
