Severe weather drill is Tuesday

Boyle County will participate in a statewide severe weather drill at 10:07 a.m. Tuesday as part of March Awareness Month, said Lennie Shepperson, director of the Danville-Boyle County Emergency Management.

Schools and industries have been asked to activate their severe weather procedures or whatever source they use to obtain severe weather alerts. Outdoor sirens will be activated once notification is received by the 911 Emergency Communications Center. Bad weather will cancel the drill.

Shepperson said this is the time for residents to review procedures for protecting themselves during severe storm weather, including a tornado.

Shepperson reminds people to not call the 911 Center to ask why the sirens are being sounded; they should take cover immediately and tun to a local radio station.
