I am tired of hearing religious fundamentalists and whoever else has jumped on the bandwagon condemn gay marriage as an egregious attack on the "sacred institution of marriage."
If people want to begin a filtering process for marriage, let's begin with celebrities. I've watched news stories of famous people who have married four or more times.
The divorce rate in the United States is over 40 percent. This "sacred institution" is beginning to look more like a weather forecast. How can we condemn two individuals for wanting to solidify their union when 40 percent of straight people can't maintain their vows? Should we not allow two-time offenders to apply for a license? Is that damaging our "institution," or does anyone in this community feel that divorce benefits our nation?
